Over 2000 employees of Severn Trent Water have trained with CSS Worksafe

CSS Worksafe, established in 1992, has more than 20 years’ experience in the height safety and fall protection training sector. With extensive knowledge of current and compliant industry standards, CSS provides high quality falls from height training as well as bespoke programmes tailored to specific industries.

One such example of a bespoke programme is the Work at Height training designed specifically for Severn Trent Water.

Falls from height are one of the most common work place accidents and by the addition of working near water the dangers significantly increase. To combat any potential accidents at work, Severn Trent Water’s Health and Safety Team worked closely with CSS Worksafe to develop and deliver a range of relevant and practical courses for operational staff  working at height both on water and sewage treatment sites.

As a result of this collaboration CSS Worksafe has trained over 2000 staff for Seven Trent Water, so far, with the majority of the delegates utilising the purpose built training facility in Bromsgrove.

All operational staff at Severn Trent have attended what is described as the ‘Core Module’.  As well a classroom theory element, the core module also includes harness usage and practical safety when working around unprotected openings.  Following mandatory attendance of the core module, additional modules are optional dependent on the role of the staff.  All modules contain practical activity and those either being delivered or to be delivered include;

  • Accessing and working with portable and fixed ladders
  • Working over water
  • Working on above ground structures
  • Rescue plans
  • Portable scaffolding

Mike Shepherd, Severn Trent Senior Technical Expert – Health & Safety Training says: “At Severn Trent Water we have always tried to maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety to protect our employees from accidents at work. Teaming up with the expert team at CSS Worksafe means our employees who have undertaken the Water Height Safety Course are all up to date on current fall arrest and fall protection knowledge and can safely deliver the requirements of their job without placing themselves at undue risk.”

Danny Punter, CSS Worksafe Training Development Manager says: “We are proud to be partnered with Severn Trent Water in delivering a safety training project which is of paramount importance to the organisation. Decreasing the risk of accidents when working at height is our number one priority. Staff training and using quality products are the best ways to decrease the risk of accidents when working at height.”
